Under normal operating conditions, some electrical devices (electric motors, welding machines, fluorescent lamps) consume not only active energy but also reactive energy from the grid. This is physically necessary for these devices to operate properly. However, the sum of both energies creates a load on the transmission network. The goal is to connect a properly designed capacitor to the device, which directly supplies reactive energy to the device. This reduces the amount of reactive energy transmitted through the network. This solution is called power factor correction.
